RSS Spend Rs. 50 lac per month on Re-conversion, 2.73 lac Minorities Re-converted in Braj, alone

The CSF, India's activist community NGO takes strong exception to the reported utterances of the certain RSS functionaries " to reconvert 5000 minority families on Christmas day " and calls upon the government to investigate the matter and prevent communal disharmony, which has far-reaching effects.

"The Hindu fundamentalists seem emboldened with the new government, which is giving India and the BJP a bad image in India and abroad. We therefore appeal to Prime Minister, Narendra Modi to caution the RSS and restrain it from stirring up communal frenzy. We have no issue with any one changing religion, but not under duress or through inducement, as has been proved.

Further, the Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment Thaawar Chand Gehlot said that the government was not in favour of granting schedule caste status to Dalit Christian and Muslims, which is why these re-conversions are taking place. Those who re-converted are from the lower castes or extremely poor, and government needs to focus on this strata of Indian society, rather than use them as fodder for social engineering" said Joseph Dias, the CSF general secretary.

According to Joseph Dias, within months of the NDA taking over, incidents of 'ghar wapsi' have increased, especially in UP and the Christians even in the national capital are unsafe, with a church burnt, another stoned and yet another attacked. The RSS itself has put out figures of 2.73 lac minorities being reconverted in the Braj area of UP alone.

Reports reaching The CSF point out that thousands of families, especially in Agra, Fatehpur Sikri, Mathura, Firozabad, Etah, Meerut, Mainpuri and Uttarakhand are unable to freely practice their faith.

"We have called upon the community all over the country and NRIs to observe a Black Christmas, with prayers that Indian Christians may truly have freedom of religion. The danger is that such unchecked and encouraged communal activities by non-state actors pose an imminent danger to the development agenda which got the BJP government elected. If the government and secularists remain silent to give impetus to the Hindutva forces, then the day will not be far, when India will be reduced to another Afghanistan, Bangladesh or Pakistan", The CSF general secretary observed.

Joseph Dias also cautioned that many of the minorities who had voted for the BJP, which otherwise would not have been able to win the elections, will be compelled to turn away from the party. Christians being a peace loving community have their religious sentiments hurt with such statements coming from prominent BJP politicos.

"The timing and frequency of such provocations makes it suspect that the government is only for Hindus, of Hindus and by Hindus, with not even lip service being paid to minorities. Such governance is bound to draw the ire of the developed nations, who presently have a good opinion of the establishment, but are also committed to human and minority rights. It is well documented fact that Indian Christians, individually and as a community have contributed immensely towards the progress of the nation and should not be treated as second-class citizens. The re-converts will vitiate the social atmosphere and be used by the majority in the war against minorities", The CSF general secretary added.
